XML is an architecture studio based in Amsterdam. Founded in 2008 by Max Cohen de Lara and David Mulder van der Vegt, the practice approahes each project as an opportunity to design environments that strengthen public live.

Combining conceptual clarity with an attention site specific conditions and material qualities we work with our clients to realise spaces that envoke a sense discovery and optimism.

Max Cohen de Lara studied at University of Pennsylvania and at Delft University of Technology. Having worked at architecture firms including Office of Ryue Nishizawa in Tokyo he co-founded XML in 2008.

David Mulder van der Vegt studied at Delft University of Technology. He worked at Office for Metropolian Architecture OMA in Rotterdam and co-founded XML in 2008.

David and Max have been teaching at architecture school both nationally and abroad, including founding the Master’s program Designing Democracy at The Sander Instituut, the Master’s department of the Gerrit Rietveld Academie.
